People often think of data backup as being something that is only used in business. However, data backup can be very important for home users as well, even though the average home user often doesn’t have any recent backups of their data.
The most common type of data that home users like to back up is photos – these tend to be very important and irreplaceable if a home computer should fail.
There have been many occasions where we have had to inform a customer that their hard drive has failed and they have lost all of the data on it. For this reason we always recommend that customers put a backup in place, if they have any important information.
Backing up to a USB drive
At the very simplest level you can back up your data to an external hard drive or even a USB pen drive. You can do this manually by selecting all of your data, copying it and then pasting it onto your USB drive.
We can also introduce an automated system for backing up your data. We recommend several programs including Second backup and Duplicati. Both of these programs are free to use and they offer a way to partially or fully automate the backing up of your data. We can install and configure these programs for you.
Sometimes backing up to an external hard drive just isn’t enough. If you had a fire, a flood or even a power surge then both your computer and your backup drive could become corrupt and useless. In this case a cloud backup would save the day.
Despite popular believe, cloud based backup is very secure and when you consider that all modern computers are connected to the internet, and thus susceptible to viruses and hacking attempts, it often makes more sense to have your data stored in an enterprise data backup environment with high levels of security in place rather than having it stored locally on your computer and protected only by a home firewall.
We are resellers for Livedrive cloud backup software, which is an excellent program that will automatically upload all of your data periodically (It can be configured to upload changes to your data as they occur or on a daily basis). The software will store an unlimited number of revisions, in the cloud, for all of the data that you select and will allow you to restore that data to any given point in time, should you need to do so.
This form of offsite backup protects you against any local issues including fire, theft, flooding, power surges and even malicious viruses that encrypt the local copies of your data.
Livedrive cloud backup is available for just £50.00 per year and will give you peace of mind when it comes to your precious data.
I tried the machine tonight and it’s clearly muck quicker. The software starts up a lot quicker and seems a bit more responsive too. All other things I tried no longer had the pause from before so it’s really good.

When our ELDERLY computer would not start we decided to contact Qwerty IT Services in the hope that it could be saved and all its files. The fact that David would come to the house was a bonus. David responded quickly and was so pleasant and friendly, explaining what was needing done in a way we could understand without being patronising.
Our elderly computer is now up and running but we know that it is on borrowed time so we are now working with David to have a new computer built to our own specifications.
Excellent service from start to finish.
